About me

Hello, I'm Stefanos and I'm a Computer Scientist by major, problem solver by nature.

Since 2000, I have personal experience in Systems Administration and since 2004 I have professional experience in Assistant Systems Administration / IT Network Engineer.

Originally, I'm a programmer; due to an opportunity I was offered back in 2004 though, I had to start as a Computer Technician that would allow me to become an Assistant Systems Administrator afterwards.

I use GNU / Debian exclusively for a number of years now.

Before that I was a FreeBSD zealot, but decided to go with something simpler to configure.

First I played with Red Hat and Fedora at a later time, then with various other distros and eventually I moved to Debian for good. I never looked back since then.

Windows feels like home since I have years of personal experience.

I have an extensive experience around the following topics:

  • computer maintenance
  • system configuration
  • WordPress setup
    • Advanced security configuration
    • Performance optimization
  • Web server
    • security
    • optimization
    • performance

I have been using the following tools for a number of years for personal research, purely for academic purposes and frankly I feel comfortable using them:

  • C
  • C++
  • Python
  • PHP
  • JavaScript - Node.js
  • shell scripting (sh, bash)
  • LaTeX

The following list consists of tools that I'm still learning and I will continue doing so as long as I'm capable:

  • various databases: SQLite3, MySQL (MariaDB, Percona), PostgreSQL
  • Perl
  • Lua
  • Java
  • C#

Besides computers, I occasionally find myself delved into the world of photography, philosophy of life, psychology, and writing.

In the future, I hope to write a couple of interesting books.
